About OmiseGO (OMG)

OMG Network, FKA OmiseGO, is a decentralized Layer 2 (L2) network built on the Ethereum blockchain. Omiseogo was launched in July 2017 as a way to scale transactions with lower fees, while retaining the same security as Ethereum mainnet. Omisego was rebranded to OMG Network in June 2020. OMG Network supports ETH and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible digital assets.

The native cryptocurrency of OMG Network is OMG, an ERC-20 token that is compatible with the EVM. OMG is typically used for network utilities and decentralized finance (DeFi) purposes, such as: paying transaction fees, participating in ecosystem governance, and staking on the protocol. Holders of OMG are typically early investors, DeFi traders, and community participants.
